May 1st = free comic book day!

I'm tired but in a good mood.
Helping for a couple of weeks on another project. Fun characters to draw. Looks like work for the upcoming nights and weekends to get it all done nicely, so before I forget:

If you're in North America, this Saturday May 1st is free comic book day. If you go to your local comic retailer, you should be able to pick up a nice collection of free previews.
My biggest incentive to go is for the Zuko prequel, written by Dave Roman and Alison Wilgus, illustrated by Nina Matsumoto.

Last Airbender

Nina's making her own adaptation of the movie character, and making Dev Patel look good.
Avatar,Last Airbender
(sorry, Dev, I'll always prefer the cartoon, but that takes nothing away from your acting skills).

So if you have the time, get the preview then buy the manga.
Or else the baby panda gets it!

I give Nina Matsumoto many kudos for merging the original series design with that of the movie's so that it will appeal to everyone even those like me who despise the film for being too freely adapted. Zuko looks more like Zuko with just a different hairstyle and shaped scar than Dev Patel.

She was specifically told not to mimic the actors' likenesses too closely for legal reasons, which helped with regards to her ability to tie her designs back to the show.

How interesting.
You'd think getting the book license would mean getting all the legalese cleared up, including actors' likeness (which may explain why some past comic book adaptation of films or series looked off, ha ha).
Ah well, I'm happy with Nina's work and can't wait to see more!
