When I want to have a nice trip down memory lane, I hop over to YouTube for a dose of 80's videos...very often, stuff I haven't seen in years.
Laughing at all the synth sounds, the hairdos...The Cars, Gowan, Duran Duran and the like.
Can't help it, grew up with it, and makes me smile.
Bittersweet feeling at the "don't give up" video of Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel, the version where they simply hold on to each other. Dang I love that song!
Ok, made you suffer through my nostalgia long enough.
Listening to all this while finishing these two pages.

Whee, get to comment first again!

Somehow I'm not really surprised at the turn of events, though I might have hoped otherwise. Great facial expressions and action scenes.

First comment- either you are up really late, or bright and early ;)

What can I say, Zhao is predictable in way. But I'm not quite done with him yet. Mwahaha!
Jun. 12th, 2007 10:28 am (UTC)
Damn, I either expected that Zhao would go in rage or submit himself to realizing the truth, but Zhao is Zhao. I wonder if he would think about returning to the Fire Nation or stay with the Northern Water Tribe, it looks like he has a lot to think about.
Jun. 12th, 2007 03:12 pm (UTC)
You were expecting right- these were the two main paths Zhao could choose. Rage just come more naturally to him though.
And thinking? He's rather impetuous when it comes to that...

Fight! Fight! Fight!

Annnnd I have no idea what's going to happen next. *excited*
Jun. 12th, 2007 03:17 pm (UTC)
It was a rather short lived fight. Kind of like Titanic VS Iceberg.
Jun. 12th, 2007 10:58 am (UTC)
Tension and Conflict. Very well depicted, and Zhao really is predictable.. (that's the word! I couldn't remember how to describe him till you used the word!) This will probably not end well.. (Oprah time! The Angst!haha..Just kidding.)
Jun. 12th, 2007 03:15 pm (UTC)
Haha, oh yes, Zhao is a total Oprah casebook :D
I can just imagine the show right now *giggles way too loud in the morning, will wake up roommate*

Mr. No Self Control...

But his expression... His thought-he-was-a-friend... With the knife he made... I think that hurts.

But Horuk didn't kill him for the attack... (I bet there's conflict there, for all that he thinks that he wants to kill Zhao.)

Eeeeee, the tension! Tragedy or Self-Growth?!
Jun. 12th, 2007 03:21 pm (UTC)
He lives up to his nickname, what can I say.
But it's not over. Whatever (or whoever) didn't kill him can only...er...can't say make stronger, so I guess I'll go in the self-growth direction. Might take a while to get through mr. Ego's head though. Maybe if we keep hitting him hard enough, something will get through.

I've missed a couple of posts, but I'm back and loving the action. Your scenes always have a great sense of motion to me--like it automatically animates itself in my head. Good facial expressions as well.

By the way, said a prayer for your mum. Hope she feels better soon :-).

Glad to have you back!
Thank you, glad you are enjoying my ramblings :)
And thanks also for your good wishes- very appreciated.

Oh, Zhao!
*weeps for him*
Jun. 12th, 2007 04:27 pm (UTC)
The man makes his own trouble in a way- doesn't deserve too much weeping.
Ok, he earned a bit of sympathy.

So on character! I like the 4th panel on the 22nd page where he's like '...' and you think, is he going to be nice about this? And of course the answer is no.

Though to be honest who wouldn't be righteously pissed? At least they could have told him he was fire-nation and left out the moonslaying part so he wouldn't feel so bad about looking different.

Since someone has to say it, the third panel on pg 23 is totally hot.
Jun. 12th, 2007 04:35 pm (UTC)
Zhao has all the right to be pissed. They did try, at the beginning, to hint to him he was fire nation. It failed miserably: he either was too confused to fully grasp the situation ("explain to me what is that fire nation thing you keep mentionning?"), or he would start asking weird questions, or he'd start getting into bad temper mode.
They wanted to tell him, they just waited for the right moment...a bit too long, I'm afraid.

Ok, I shamelessly admit I had loads of fun drawing that panel. Maybe for some obvious reasons...but not others- I had fun doing the folds in the big coat! Heehee :D

I had no Peter Gabriel album when I was young, but darn it I loved the video! So simple, and that song...I didn't understand the lyrics back then, my english was too poor.

Yeah, Zhao is predictable in his bad temper, but still...guess that Water tribe thinking didn't quite made it all the way down his psyche.
I find myself enjoying drawing Arnook for some reason. He's just trying to be a good chief, and keeping everything in balance.
Thanks! Glad you liked that panel (fun fun fun to draw)- heh, Zhao is a handsome guy. Just bad temper and the kind of personality you don't necessarily want to be friendly with. But what the hey! He's entertaining.

Wow, great stuff, as usual. The intensity of the emotion is really fantastic, and that's some good, tight action there. I like how you've built up these characters and the situation so that this is all very believable and visceral.
... And the gallery notes said this is gonna be a three-part story? Woah, epic saga! I'm really looking foward to it.
Jun. 13th, 2007 01:56 am (UTC)
Thank you, glad to hear it works well :)
Hehe, the test passed, someone DOES read the notes I write! I kinda separated the whole thing in my head in three distinct entity. I don't know how epic it will be, but I certainly have my work cut out. What's good though is I want to keep moving forward and tell that story. Yay! Having way too much fun here.

Yeah youtube always find away to blast me to the past! I really do love it! XD

And I'm also really loving this story arc. It rings so true to Zhao's character but also shows him in a positive light. *hugs Zhao* You've totally turned me into a Zhao fan you know? XD The other day I was watching some Season 1 episodes and I was like: YEAH! Go Zhao! XD Hehe.
Jun. 13th, 2007 01:58 am (UTC)
Oh, the stuff I've found on youtube. Scaryyy! I feel old now, heehee!

heh, I get to blame Alexds1 for turning me into a Zhao fan. I didn't care much about old sideburns here at first. But darn it, everytime I watch an episode with him in it now, I end up cheering too!
Gotta love villains :D
Jun. 13th, 2007 01:03 am (UTC)
I also second alexds1. I also love the last panel of page 23, mostly because it conveys like ten different emotions right there. Man, this whole thing is made of awesome. If there ever is an Avatar comic, I sure hope you're working on it.
Jun. 13th, 2007 02:02 am (UTC)
Thank you very much! Glad the last panel worked good- seemed to have triggered what I hoped for. Ouf!
Aw man, if there is an Avatar comic, you can bet it will have to go through a special editorial process...and I don't know for which audience they'll aim it. I tend to go either very cartoony and not serious, to things PG13. They may not cross the PG 13 barrier at all.
And I don't know...they may want a comic that's got more of a manga style page layout- I get a lot of european influence, not too inventive page layout. Then again, I love clarity.
But I'd try for it anyway :D
Jun. 13th, 2007 06:01 am (UTC)
SOMETHING tells me that wasn't a friendship glomp on the latest page.

Ahhhh, Zhao, if ya don't like the Water Tribe after all of this, you can come bunk with me. :)
Jun. 13th, 2007 07:33 am (UTC)
More like a "whomp" than a glomp. Slightly more aggressive.
Prepare your bunk space- Zhao doesn't like the water tribe anymore.
Jun. 13th, 2007 06:15 pm (UTC)

Teh drama, teh facial expressions.. THE ALL OF IT. <3

I get this warm feeling of glee/awe just reading all this.

Jun. 13th, 2007 08:26 pm (UTC)
Thanks ever ever so much! *hugs* Makes me all happy that you enjoy it.
(would it be ok with you if I mention two of your OCs in a little, few pages interlude? Pretty please? *makes puppy eyes*)

zomg, Horuk reminds me of Ellis Peters' "Pilgrim of Hate," where a young man who's sister was killed by another man accompanied the murderer on a three-month pilgrimage to ensure that he received justice - there's more to it, but... seriously, that's a new level of masochism. I wonder if Jet would go that far...
Jul. 9th, 2007 01:46 pm (UTC)
I'd say Jet is capable of going that far, and perhaps even further- that kid has issues ;)
