SDCC 2009

Currently 9pm, Sunday night.
The show ended 4 hours ago. Helped pack a bit, went back to the hotel for some rest. Waiting for Kazu to call us to go out to dinner.
Personally, feeling drained. Blagh. Food would help.
I can't give a decent report right now (I never can), I'll just highlight these things:

Lost my favorite jacket somewhere. One of the rare cute piece of clothing I had. A jacket bought at Simmons in Montreal a few years ago. Dang! I'll never be able to replace it.

Used the Water Tribe books to raise money for charity: a little bit over 2000$! Woohoo!! Thank you to all the people who donated the money! I will be sending it off as soon as possible to:

What else...
Del Rey manga announced during a panel that there will be a manga adaptation of the LAST AIRBENDER movie.
Taken from AnimeNewsNetwork:
"Going back to the original manga field, the company is also developing an adaptation of M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender, the movie based on Nickelodeon's Avatar: The Last Airbender. The adaptation will be written Dave Roman and drawn by Joon Choi, while a prequel to this will be authored by Nina Matsumoto."
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/convention/2009/san-diego-comic-con-international/del-rey
Congrats to Dave, you can be assured he will do his best to make these two books, the prequel and movie adaptation the best they can be!
Let me share pictures!

Random images from the con: best surprise of the lot would have been during the Avatar Cosplay gathering. The creators of Avatar, Mike DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko showed up, along with Sifu Kisu (who took the time to give a few bending lessons to various cosplayers).
Enjoy the randomness!

Got lucky on the fairy cosplayers, they walked right in front of our booth.

Oh, I wish I could have gone! These pictures filled me with glee, though, and I'm glad everybody had such an amazing time!

And I'm impressed you raised so much money for charity!

What was cool of the cylons was the light for the eye actually moved, plus there was the classic cylon sound. A great cosplay with all the effects.

Those cosplays are all great! It's great that Mike and Bryan got into it. The cabbage man is my favorite. Glad the water tribe sales went so well!

The arrival of Mike and Bryan was a total surprise to almost everyone! The crowd of cosplayers behaved rather well, everyone was in high spirit.

Those cosplayers are awesome! Very cool pics.

Yay for raising money for charity. Will your 'Water Tribe' books ever be available for sale outside cons? I don't live in North America but I'd love to grab a copy someday.

I don't mean to be bitchy, but why make an adapation of the movie?
I mean... an adaptation of an adaptation sounds kind of... redundant/useless? DDDDD:
I mean, I'm happy we're getting more stuff, I just think it would be nicer if we could get more stuff based on the original version D: D: D: D: *comic fanboy from the Simpsons*
(Don't get me wrong, I'll buy it and read it as it's own piece of art without comparing it to the original story)

ALSO: OMG, Mike and Bryan are the cutest people ever <3
LOL at Phoenix King Bryan XP

I'll make an entry about the upcoming manga in another post. For now, sleep.
Ha ha, Mike and Bryan seemed to have enjoyed the event.

Oh you saw all three Sleeping Beauty fairies together! I only saw two of them separately. Meriweather is just perfect.

I gather from the unpanicked tone of the post that you have a ride home. =)
rufftoon
Jul. 27th, 2009 08:26 am (UTC)
Yeah, they so happened to step in right in front of our booth. It was awesome!
Yes, finally managed to arrange a ride back. Ouf!
Thanks again for your generous offer. You won't have to make a huge detour because of me.

Wow, I would have loved to be able to go there!! Such an amazing reunion of epic cosplayers!! =D
Also, congrats for the sales of Water Tribe!! *__* Are you going to sell them overseas? Because I would like to buy them!! ^^

I did not know untill I saw him in photographs, but OMG Sifu Kisu is SOOOO MUCH Piandao! <3 Sifu Kisu is made of awesomeness!!! *___*

PS: Robot Chicken!! <3 =DDD

Jul. 27th, 2009 03:47 pm (UTC)
I'll have to go and check how easy it is for the whole selling-shipping overseas. It may be a bit expensive :(

Ha ha, Sifu Kisu IS Piandao.
I stumbled upon Robot Chicken Guy in one of those rare times I left the booth. Really happy about it.

Cabbage man!! with real cabbages! So awesome XD I love the three fairies and the guy in the pinstripe suit too XD And Robot Chicken! SDCC looks like so much fun...

Who is that with you on the picture?
rufftoon
Jul. 27th, 2009 03:45 pm (UTC)
Guy in the pinstripe suit is Kevin Coppa, cosplaying Dr.Who.
As for the one with me in the picture, that's a whole bunch of the Flight crew, plus Jeff Smith (Bone) and Scott McCloud (Understanding Comics).
Ha ha, too lazy to list all the names!

That is such an honorable gesture, to give the money raised to charity! You have my respect and admiration.

The three fairies from Sleeping Beauty are definitely my favorite costumes! :)

Glad you had a good time...sorry for the jacket...I guess it's no longer in stores...otherwise, I could always buy it for you and ship it :P

To give the money away is the best way to stay on the good side of the law, I think.
There were many many other awesome costumes, but sometimes I just wouldn't run after the cosplayers. I may post a few more next time.
