Water Tribe mood

No rest for the wicked!
I'll be going in to work, tomorrow afternoon, to make sure I have files ready in case we need to pitch on Tuesday. It won't be all cleaned up, but presentable.
Will be going for a short visit to Montreal at the end of the month. The end of an era, you might say: I'll be emptying the apartment I have there of my stuff. My parents have been really generous, and have accepted to keep my books for a while...that's over 30 boxes! I don't know where they'll put all of these (not the shed, not the shed!!).

While in Montreal, I'll try and catch this Quebec film that just came out: "Ce Qu'il Faut Pour Vivre" (All you need to live). It's based on a historical event. In the 1950's in Quebec, an Inuit afflicted with Tuberculosis is uprooted from his family and is sent south to be treated. He could be away for more than two years, he doesn't know french, it's a big clash of cultures. There are no real villains in the film, mostly just a quiet look and introspection at two different worlds.
Trailer, in french:

Just previously, Arluk was making a break for it.

Now the pursuit begins...

Yay, Horuk is back. Couldn't have him miss all the fun!
And I'm sending Nauja in the middle of all this chaos simply for fun. Making characters' lives difficult is my job.

xD I'm a bit of a sadistic writer myself. Pain only makes for better happier endings, though. =)
Sep. 1st, 2008 06:29 am (UTC)
I don't know if pain is necessary...how about just a bit of anxiety?
Sep. 1st, 2008 05:13 am (UTC)

I'll assume that you're just making some crazy plot and that Arluk isn't dead because that would be a crime >:c

Haha, oh no not Nauja XC I'm getting all stressed out

Lao's covet!face made me laugh

Me? Crazy plot? Naaaaaaa. I think I only have one or two surprise really. The rest is pretty...erm...well, you can see me coming a mile away, I bet.
I don't know if I prefer covet or pouty face Lao. He does both on one page so I guess that's all ok.

OH NOES!! D: D: D:

But this time I'm with Azula here: Assuming is no proof! *hopes Arluk will survive*

And now Nauja? A few moments later Horuk will join the party as well to see where his daughter is? XD

Oh Lao! Still in love with those little treasures. <3

Azula has become real careful (along with perhaps a bit more paranoid). She does well to double check.
Well, if Nauja takes her time coming back, you can bet her dad will be going after her.
Lao is even more in love when the objects are not yet his. They are more desirable.

Aw man now *I* want to see that movie!! *pouts* :{

I don't know if it will have a wider release outside of Quebec-Canada. Hope so (if not, at least the DVD will be region 1 and good for North America and Japan).

LOL. But you are supposed to make your character's lvies more difficult! That's the fun of any story!
Sep. 1st, 2008 06:46 am (UTC)
Some of them are starting to complain and want me to leave them alone to enjoy peace and quiet.
Zhao still seems willing to get a beating as long as there's a pay off in the end.

Oh, dear. I hope very much that the No Body, No Death principle is in play here, and that Zhao is being Sneaky!Zhao and has some kind of tricky plan for preserving the life of his erstwhile compadre. Poor Arluk. I wonder if he'll ever trust him again...

A part of me really wants to see Nauja braining Fire Nation soldiers with her bag, right and left. But enough of me is logical enough to know the odds are against her, to be rather worried...
Sep. 1st, 2008 04:49 pm (UTC)
Unless the medicine she's bringing includes rocks, she's not going to do a lot of braining with that bag.
Let's hope its rocks.

I'm not quite sure I would take bets of Azula vs Nauja...I don't think poor Nauja would have a lot of chance.
Sep. 1st, 2008 12:04 pm (UTC)
Azula: no, the death wasn't on screen! Go check and make sure!

Yeah for making characters' life more complicated, I do love that school of writing.
Sep. 1st, 2008 02:31 pm (UTC)
Hey, she thought she nailed the Avatar! Except... they took the body. So she cleverly shifted the responsibility. Azula, not stupid. Bat-guano crazy, but not stupid.

(Wee little edits:
http://pics.livejournal.com/rufftoon/pic/000ke5f0 -- "No prisoner" is definitely appropriate for the situation (one running (ex?)friend), but the more common phrase is "no prisoners," and it allows for "and if you meet anyone else, well, you know what to do."

http://pics.livejournal.com/rufftoon/pic/000ksccx -- "I better not" is a bit slangy for Fire-lord Princess Azula. "I'd better not" would be more technically correct, I believe.)

*goes squee* and goes **EEK** that Nauja is headed there and... crosses her fingers that Zhao's dirty look at the "go check" people is because this is likely to mess with his cunning plan to let/hope Arluk escape(d).

Gah, no! If Arluk is dead...I dunno. But I don't want him to be...or Nauja. It got sad and intense so suddenly, but it didn't even need a transition. Just shocking: good job!
Sep. 1st, 2008 04:59 pm (UTC)
Thank you!
It's kind of hard to do sometimes, especially updating in chunks like this, to keep a certain rhythm in the story.
Things mostly going dark from now on.

Excellent sequence - I can't really see much that would need to be improved upon - great mix of good plotting, good charaterization, good drawing, and good layouts and pacing - and I don't often see all those aspects coming together so well in one strip, let alone with just one person doing it -

Sep. 1st, 2008 04:57 pm (UTC)
Thank you!
And many thanks again for all your previous comments. You don't know how I check myself these days, thinking "What would Skylark find that looks wonky". But that's good! Makes me think more! I try anyway, I try.
Sep. 1st, 2008 01:44 pm (UTC)
Well, they're pretty close to the magical spirit spring with the super-special healing water, so even if Arluk is dead, Nauja or somebody can bring him back.

Also, lol@Lao.
Sep. 1st, 2008 05:00 pm (UTC)
Makes me wonder how often the Tribe pulled out some spirit water to save relatives.
They might just live to a very old age over there.

I'm going to die of suspense!
Sep. 1st, 2008 05:01 pm (UTC)
Seeing there will be plenty more other stuff happening, the fate of poor Arluk may be the least of the suspense inducing stress (part of me hopes so, in an evil way).
Sep. 1st, 2008 02:32 pm (UTC)
I must be insane. My first thought was that Arluk was the guy standing next to Zhao, disguised in the uniform. Second thought, 'too many other soldiers for that'. Guess I'll see when you show us more.
Sep. 1st, 2008 05:02 pm (UTC)
Yeah, they would have needed to beat up all the soldiers or force them to work with them.
If there had been just one, perhaps Zhao would have done things differently...

She'd definitely be happy to know she's unnerving people. Still believing in scaring people...
Sep. 1st, 2008 02:35 pm (UTC)
"Chase your characters up a tree and throw rocks at them." - Not sure where I read that quote.

In any case, things just keep getting "better." Poor Arluk!
Sep. 1st, 2008 05:03 pm (UTC)
Ha ha, I do believe that's what I do.
Or chase them to a cliff and throw them down.
