Not watching, but listening...

...to the Oscar.
Heh, I need to work! Them comics don't make themselves.
Uptil now, all the category I rooted for lost (well, except Sweeney Todd). Booooh! No Persepolis, no Madame Tutli Putli...*sigh*
Took some time to add new pages to Water Tribe, in between doing some colors for the cover.
Last stretch of preparing all that!

On a small victory note, I finally managed to fix the glitch on my computer, and now can connect wirelessly! Woot! Let's see how long that lasts.

Water Tribe part 4, Pages 187-192Collapse )

I don't think she's a proper Fire Nation lady, y'know...

Poor Zhao. The Nauja one came to him unbidden... Although some of that might've been more in the "I want to be important!" ambition.

And of course she gets a full page! *cheers teh evil*

He certainly has not invited her, therefore not chosen her.
As for his little sudden Nauja thought...I think he wants nice coats XD

Or is this a good thing for Zhao...? We must wait and find out! *camps out with sleeping bag*

This is Azula we're talking about! How can it be good in the end.
Or..well...since Zhao does tend to think like her, it just could work.
Feb. 25th, 2008 03:37 pm (UTC)
I'll admit it: I took one look at Zhao's Nauja fantasy and began cheerfully humming "If I Were A Rich Man". (All day long he'd biddy biddy bum, in the Water Tribe equivalent of mad bling. For him and his woman. :D)

THese pages are excellent. I love the flow of Zhao's thoughts, still such a bombastic prat but slowly coming around to some sort of serious consideration of his future and prospects, and then--bam--cut short for the time being.

Azula has an interesting look about her, sort of...calculatedly not feral. She isn't fraying at the edges, but something about the way her hair and clothing sit gives me the impression that if she were any lesser of a strong woman and an unimpeachable sociopath, she would be. I'm not sure if that conveys what I see correctly, but that's the closest I can describe it at this time of night.

(The one thing I'd adjust in any of these pages is Azula's chin. It needs some firming up, a clearer outline; as it's drawn now, it sort of straggles away down her collar and gives the vague unsettling impression of a goatee at a glance. Please tell me she hasn't been taking a leaf out of Haru's book. ;_;)

Ha ha, certainly if Zhao had his way, he'd not only control the world but manage to get the equivalent of Water Tribe's best fashion XD
Hmmm...good observation on Azula- no, she's not pulling a Haru there. I'll see if I can fix it up better.

Aghhh, though Ratatouille is okaaayyys, I wanted some sorta something for Persepolis and I wished the russian "Moya Lyubov" would win as best short. Damn Oscars :C

But YES THESE PAGES ARE LOVE, I've always admired how you handle paneling, and how each frame is distinct but not overwhelming in showing each scene.

Feb. 25th, 2008 06:05 pm (UTC)
I hadn't known about the russian film- I've loved his past work, but my heart was being patriotic so I was going for Madame Tutli Putli (or the I met the Walrus, but I preferred the esthetic of the other one).
Thank you very much- I'm starting to relax a bit panel wise, learning not to cram everything in one page, though sometimes adding more panels is good. Got to learn to balance it all.
Feb. 25th, 2008 04:38 pm (UTC)
...I take it that wasn't quite the 'proper Fire Nation lady' he had in mind?
Feb. 25th, 2008 05:59 pm (UTC)
She's certainly pretty enough- but in terms of character, he may have preferred something else.

I must apologise for jumping back and forth between chapters like that.
This belongs in part four. The whole gallery for that chapter can be found here:

A whole page full of Azula's beauty ... Nothing I can handle with (and I think Zhao, too)
(I print it out and hang it on my room wall.
Feb. 25th, 2008 11:17 pm (UTC)
We'll soon see if Zhao can handle Azula...

*happy squee* Zhao/Nauja! The thought entered in his brain! BWAHAHAA. Arluk and his rumor mill are now my heroes.

Page 187-9 is most lovely. Zhao's alone times are always so wonderfully characterized. The times we DON'T hear what he is thinking are particularly poignant. Especially in contrast to his little inner monologues.
Feb. 25th, 2008 11:19 pm (UTC)
Kinda hard to ignore, when someone like Arluk keeps going on and on about it!
It is tempting to put dialogues in every panels. I'm still learning to appreciate the silent moments. Let people wonder what he's thinking.

You'd think he'd be more obvious in his assault rather than sneaky XD
Extreme sports- I think we'll keep that in mind for a future contest for the DA club.

Ahhhhhh! Cliffhanger!!! EEEEvil. v_v

The last panel on the first page and the second panel on the third page are total love. I fangirl the first and there's so much emotion in the second.
Feb. 25th, 2008 11:21 pm (UTC)
I ALWAYS do cliffhangers.
Okay, pretty often anyways.
Feb. 25th, 2008 11:10 pm (UTC)
O noes it's AZULA!! O_o
Zhao and Nauja would make a lovely couple and I love Zhao's expression in all the pages. This is great!!
Feb. 25th, 2008 11:23 pm (UTC)
Azula- here to liven up the part!
Zhao doesn't do lovely very well, unfortunately.
Thank you!!

Rufftoon? Can I steal that Azula hairdo for my character?
Feb. 26th, 2008 02:31 am (UTC)
Go ahead, I didn't really invented it- it's a version of Azula with her hair down that we can see in the first episode of the third season.

For once, Azula is straightforwards- she actually means food.

*squee* You catered to my shipping preferences all in a span of six pages! And I knew you liked Nauja, Zhao. Your ambition just gets in the way. Azula looks absolutely gorgeous on her page. So evil and so beautiful at the same time.
Mar. 3rd, 2008 03:47 am (UTC)
I still claim a certain level of ship neutrality- and Zhao in this case helps. As you said, his ambitions blocks almost everything else from happening.
Thank you- I will try and keep Azula evil and beautiful (as she should be).
