I don't know why, I just seem to keep away from internet or lack the energy to post.
Maybe because I have nothing interesting to share. I could post more movie trailers, but meh. I'll do it for Last Airbender, ha ha! I want to see Zhao!

On a different note, my 88 years old grandma fought off pneumonia. She's a bit weak, but way way better and out of the hospital. Yay!!!
We went to visit her everyday during the holidays, while she was in her hospital room.
I hope she's with us for much much longer.
It just made me realise, with some sadness, how far away I am from my family and how I can't be close to them and offer support in times of crisis.
*sigh*

I need sleep. Been up since 3am. Travelling with the new safety measures in the airports is a pain.

Anyone having display problems with DeviantArt? Images won't load, whole pages will appear as just texts and take an awfully long time to connect. I've got fast internet connection, no problems with any of the other sites I visit. It's been about two weeks now and it's getting on my nerves.

Talk about being MIA for a while!
For those of you who guessed "she must be busy", you win...er...something.
I want to apologise for anyone I haven't answered to, be it in comments or emails. I'm trying to catch up but I just feel exhausted these days.

Not that much happened when I think about it. I've been shuffled left and right on different projects, wherever help was needed. I wonder if I'll get credited for that. I guess it depends if my scenes actually survives until the end of the films.

Also being in a big drawing slump didn't help. Apart from day work, nothing else was being done. Creative juice and energy at an all time low. Thankfully, it's finally, slowly dissipating.
I have to thank the UrasawaXTezuka Pluto manga for that. After reading the first 5 volumes, I felt that storytelling need jolt awake.
Expect the finished Water Tribe notes in the near future. Just finishing it all up so I can finally move on.
Sorry Zhao, we'll have to say farewell very soon.

There actually WAS an Agni Kai Zhao prototype toy done!

There are some minor differences with the original toy, including Zhao having a bigger head (yeah, he always had a big head)

He also has a higher forehead. I think I like this new profile.

Just when he thought he could finally measure up to Ozai, the Firelord still has a numerical advantage.

The NoSelfControl club on DA became a group recently. Since we hadn't done a contest in a while, I was thinking of proposing a new challenge soon, with the rare Ozai toy as one of the prizes, along with some Water Tribe books and Avatar pins. Stay tuned and keep an eye open on the group.

Slowness issues

Don't judge me from the tile of this post, it's not me that slow (though it does happen). I'm dealing with general computer slowness at work, mostly with accessing files. Something happening with the server or something.

Started another blog, this one all about Avatar comics, official and fan made. Just to try and keep track of all the work out there. There was a club on DA that touched upon it, but there is so much more material out there I'm sure outside of DA.
I will try to stay as neutral as possible in my comments of these stories. After al, I want to celebrate the comics, not bring 'em down.

Had a great time in San Francisco last weekend: beautiful weather made a walk in Golden Gate Park just perfect, Tut exhibit was very nice with loads of objects from that period, not just from his tomb. I still had just enough memory of my hieroglyph classes to be able to recognise a few signs and read the cartouches of the kings- yay!

The hotel was cheap- clean enough yes, but that advertisement on their site saying renovated in 2008 is false. Unless I got that one room that wasn't renovated, ha ha!
Old wallpaper wanting to peel where it was glued, bathroom door that didn't close, iron imprint on bed cover (not burnt, just imprint...that made me laugh), tv with only 5 channels. Ah well, I only stayed there to sleep, not to have an awesome unforgettable time. It served its purpose (could have been even cheaper, but that's SF for you).

The show itself was great. Mood way better than last year, possibly due in part to good weather. Saw a few people had sold out of books on Sunday.
So many great people were there, but my first thanks has to go to alexds1, armadaryu, jacks_piranhas and derflughafen for letting invade their table space. You guys are AWESOME!!

I'm trying to make my brain work on Horus, but Zhao keeps dragging me away.
After seeing so many cool stuff at APE, I want to make a Water Tribe shirt! (no!! Will not do! Bad brain, stop thinking about it!!)
I need discipline; must do Horus, not more Water Tribe.

What can I say, I miss Avatar.
I'm tempted to make a Facebook page dedicated to Avatar fancomics: the good, the bad, the ugly, the amateur, everything!! Most of what I find is on DA, but there must be more material out there in far away places.
Like Lithuania.
Or Vatican city.
Sorry, I just had a mental image of a cardinal doodling little Avatar comics.

Know what's funny? I'm returning to San Francisco's area on Thursday. This time, work related: we're going to PDI in Redwood city. Meet the team, work there for a day, do more work related stuff in the evening.

Cousin's wedding a few hours away. Current weather cold and wet, compared to yesterday's hot and humid. We'll see how that develops for this evening. I wish for a bit of sun, at least!

Currently in Dallas, Texas, for my cousin's wedding. Hot, humid and miserable.
The place around here is nothing too exciting so far, but there are a lot of wineries around.
Which, I guess, should be expected in a place called Grapevine.
Overdosed on meat last night from Brazillian grill. Gah!

On Avatar related news, I've been working on one last 10 pages comics for Nick magazine. It may not see print in the US, so you people over in Germany look out for it in a few months. I just finished sending notes to the colorist, now I need to make those dialogues work. Guh!

Nina Matsumoto, the illustrator for the prequel manga, has been very nice in posting an inking test for the book. Since there was a picture of Shaun Toub as Iroh released in Entertainment Weekly, it is nice to be able to compare:

way back in the late '70's, there was a cute tv serie called "Vickie le Viking", or "Vic the Viking" or...well, whatever other version of the title out there.

I just found out the Germans did a live action version. Though you can't tell if you've never seen the serie, and can't really say from the intro either, but they took actors that look A LOT like the cartoons!
What a great adaptation!

Realised I haven't been posting in a while.
Been busy with the apartment, plus I'm working on something which I can't show right now.
Later next week, I'll be in Montreal. Visiting family and friends, but also hopefully promoting the french edition of Horus.
Still waiting for confirmation on what will be done, but possible signing sessions with my colorist, Saymone Phanekam. I'll give a heads up once I've got official news to share.
Then I'm off to Dallas to go to my cousin's wedding.
Is it bad I'm really looking forward to go to the winery inside Dallas airport again?

This weekend, my roommate Phil is moving out (he bought a house! Woooo! yay, Phil! Happy for him!). The place will be so empty without him. I will miss him *sniff!*
Right now, I am in the chaos of reorganising everything around me, meaning buying a whole lot of furniture. Tonight, I'll at least have a bed, but not much else. I have a kitchen table with no chairs- hey, that table was on special, grabbed it while I could.

...
I wonder if I can make it to my friend's baby shower tomorrow. I will need a car ride (heh, what else is new). Guh! So much to do, a weekend isn't enough.

Anyway, once this place is set up, I will have one big guest room (unless I find a roommate), so come and visit!

Last week, I saw the studio's "secret room".
Well, not so secret that the executives don't know about it, but a secret secret secret room nonetheless!
Hidden. Invisible. You could walk past its entrance and never guess it was there.
Next time, I'll have to go and take picture of the inside- it looks like a pirate's den!
I love secret rooms! I've had many many dreams in my childhood about secret rooms and secret passages.

I saw some awesome drawing blogs today. The kind that makes me look at my own drawings and make me want to delete everything I've ever drawn. Gah!

A bit sad, really.

Remember last post, two weeks ago, when I mentioned round two of a cold?
Cold won.
Had to go see a doctor, get some antibiotics to kick that nasty thing out of me.
I'm pretty much out of it now. Still coughing a bit, mostly due to the poor air quality caused by all the fires around here.

There are apartment news that are very slowly developing. More on that another time.

Energy level extremely low. Might be the heat. Or whatever that cold leeched out of me. Can't quite seem to whip up the strength to draw fun stuff for myself like I used to. Still, I managed to do some before I need to concentrate on serious work.

Threw these pages-ideas down together over the past...well, since last time I posted WT stuff.
Warning: fail dialogs. Just there to get the ideas across, nothing more.

I'm still having fun with the ideas, I'm just doubting it would make a good story in the end. Ah well, I'm doing this for fun only, so nah. No need to be serious (that's just the part of me that wants to nitpick and destroy what I do that's rearing up its ugly head again).
That's what happens when you're surrounded by awesome story people all the time, who all have awesome ideas. You look at your stuff and go "meh". Hey, I ain't complaining! It forces me to try and think better about story.
Since this is the equivalent of a rough first draft, no wonder it's wobbly everywhere.

Really tired these days. I have drawn stuff, but it's all work related so I can't post anything.
Zhao is feeling ignored.

Just got handed part of a scene that I will have to do this weekend since they want it for Monday- lunch time.

I have made the two donations from the Water Tribe books fund raising. I'm posting the E-Receipts as proof publicly, as I said I would.
ICM is the Montreal Heart Institute. They took really good care of my dad when he needed to be operated, plus they do really great research.

Once again, big thank you to everyone who donated money to these two good causes. All together, this is more than I could have done by myself alone.
Next time, I'll try different charities. Gotta spread the help!
I just have to decide which con to go to. Anyone has a bit of table space at APE? Part of the donations would go to you.
Alison, what is the next con you may be planning to attend? We could join forces, mwahaha!!

On Last Airbender movie news, there are bits of infos trickling through the cracks, like dropping the chinese calligraphy for nonsense symbols, that makes me shake my head.
Feh.
I just hopehopeHOPE Nickelodeon-Viacom Doesn't forget about the animated serie, pushing it aside as they put a lot of energy in the live action.
The fanbase is there with the serie! Please don't forget us!!!!

Update on the apartment: good thing I double triple checked, any move happening should be at the end of the month (unless something happens, which could happen).

My friend Shadi created a new IPhone game app called "BackWords". He's finished testing it and it's out, woooo!
Had played BackWords with friends before at its testing stage and it is definitely a fun group game. If you can plug in your IPhone to speakers, even better!

Some rambling.

I need to double triple check with my roommate Phil, but he may be moving out on August 15th.
I just want a confirmation, as I need to plan my own moving in: all the furniture in here are his, so I need to replace everything (replaced things so far: shower curtains, a small trashcans, some cutlery).
I also want this to go smoothly, so we don't bump moving big furniture at the same time.
Haven't bought anything big yet.
Looks like I'll have to have everything delivered.
Plus, it would be nice to have the carpets cleaned. They could use a bit of professional help.

I just hope the paperwork is done: my name is supposed to have been added to the lease. I will have to bug the building manager and ask for a copy. He tends to move slowly on everything.

Took the time to go see HP6 last night- it was a fun film, some nice shots and a few smile worthy moments, but also had flaws. I couldn't possibly recommend the movie to someone that hasn't read the book. It would be too confusing.

Whatever drawing work I did this weekend was crap. Blah! It's like I can't layout a comic page or think of a good angle for a storyboard scene.

On a good note, had this awesome dream last night: saw the whole of The Last Airbender live action film. Everything had changed, ha ha! Toph was in it, Iroh was nice and round and wearing his White Lotus outfit. It wasn't an adaptation but a whole new story.

The live action film is like a fanfiction with a huge budget.
That's how I've decided to approach the whole thing.

Like some fans that added new bendings powers, or even blonde haired characters. Eh, they can do whatever they want, it's fanfics!

Another part of the dream later on had me promoting Water Tribe, except I had the rights to sell it, and I was planning on hiring people to do more Avatar comics based on the serie.
Lots of nervousness due to costs.

Actually made me curious to know how much it would cost to buy a license to make and sell Avatar comics.
You know.
Out of pure curiosity.

I feel cheap when I'm not posting any pics in a journal.

Brains are almost back to normal.
Got back from comicon yesterday afternoon, went straight back to work. Good thing too, we were launched on more corrections that needed to be done for the morning, next day.
It was so hard to stay awake and try to finish it all! Was suffering from post-con exhaustion.

I've mentionned the Last Airbender movie manga adaptation in the last post. Though I am extremely glad that both Dave Roman and Alison Wilgus are on board, I am slightly apprehensive of one thing. I quickly talked with the editor of the books at the Del Rey booth in San Diego. He said that they *could* consider making more Avatar manga if, and only if, the two book adaptations do well.
In my head I kept thinking: "But it is the original serie that is more recognised and beloved! You'd have more chance of success selling those! Heck, promise to tell Iroh's story in the spirit world and you'll have a winner right there!"
You'd think there would be less risk and more chance of success that way, right? Businessmen would love that model. Less risk, more success. You know, the good formula?

*shakes head*
Why oh why are Nick and Viacom avoiding the wonderful possibility of making more money with the basic franchise?
I don't know.
I'll never understand corporate executives.
I just want more Avatar comics.
Na.
Did I mention that I basically sold out of Water Tribe books at SDCC? That's correct!
If I was keeping all the money for myself, in just one show I would have almost repaid completely the printing cost.
Zhao would be happy to know he's popular enough to be able to sell books, ha ha!

Currently 9pm, Sunday night.
The show ended 4 hours ago. Helped pack a bit, went back to the hotel for some rest. Waiting for Kazu to call us to go out to dinner.
Personally, feeling drained. Blagh. Food would help.
I can't give a decent report right now (I never can), I'll just highlight these things:

Lost my favorite jacket somewhere. One of the rare cute piece of clothing I had. A jacket bought at Simmons in Montreal a few years ago. Dang! I'll never be able to replace it.

Used the Water Tribe books to raise money for charity: a little bit over 2000$! Woohoo!! Thank you to all the people who donated the money! I will be sending it off as soon as possible to:

Del Rey manga announced during a panel that there will be a manga adaptation of the LAST AIRBENDER movie.

"Going back to the original manga field, the company is also developing an adaptation of M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender, the movie based on Nickelodeon's Avatar: The Last Airbender. The adaptation will be written Dave Roman and drawn by Joon Choi, while a prequel to this will be authored by Nina Matsumoto."
