I read about that earlier and was very sad. He was one of my favorite directors. What a loss.

Learned about it maybe an hour ago.

He certainly will be missed. I don't know if I'll be able to watch his works without lamenting the fact that he'll never make anything new again.

I just want to go through a Satoshi Kon marathon.
Now.
I just can't though (silly work).

I wonder though if this will bring Paranoia Agent back into print. I've been wanting to get my hands on my own copy (I borrowed a friend's box set). Either way I think a Paranoia Agent marathon is in order.

Agreed!
Though mine will have to wait a week or two- my DVDs are at my parent's home.

I was just thinking about how much I wanted to watch Paprika... Now it's going to have to be a sort of moratorium... This sucks.

I was musing about watching Tokyo Godfathers this past weekend.
I almost feel guilty that I didn't.

This news made me so very sad today. He was an amazing director. I wish I had time to watch all of his movies right now. :c

Fitting tribute. (I've seen most of Paranoia Agent and it is truly amazing work also love the opening song. However I have to say Millenium Actress remains my favorite)

Millenium Actress certainly has an amazing vibe. I do adore Tokyo Godfathers for totally different reasons. Paprika is just pure visual candy.
Paranoia Agent still makes me squee with delight.

Especially when they are young and you know that, if given more time, they would have done so much more.
He had a new movie in the works. I wonder who will finish it.

*wibbles hard* I love Perfect Blue and Paprika! And 47 is far too young! That's how young one of my aunts were when she died (stomach cancer).

His young age does freak me out a little. That's an age I can actually see in a not too distant future. Eeep!

I was absolutely devestated when I first heard. He's my favorite animation director, period. I highly respect him and I nearly cried when I told my mom. She was also shocked because she hadn't seen anything on the Japanese news. (Which she watches everyday.)

So, I asked her to look it up on some Japanese news sites.

Also nothing.

What the hell is going on? He's a famous director, there should be some news in Japan SOMEWHERE.

Now, I'm starting to believe this is all some sick hoax. I'm not going to believe this until there's some confirmation somewhere from his own home country.

Maybe check the news tomorrow (or is it tomorrow in Japan already). It started with a Twitter news from the studio, then it was made official later on.
...
and if it IS a hoax, I will dance happily while wanting to punch whoever started this!

He's the director of Paranoia Agent? I liked that series even for all its disturbing wierdness. Does anyone know what he died of? I really hope this is a rumor.

I was just watching Tokyo Godfathers last week or so. I love that anime. The man was brilliant.

Even a day later, I'm still devastated by the news. I woke up this morning hoping that yesterday was some kind of horrible dream. Sigh.

On a completely different note, have you seen the Scott Pilgrim vs. Avatar mashup? It's absolutely brilliant. (And has Mae Whitman's voice coming from Azula at the end, hahaa..)
