Celebrating small victories

Overtime hours paid off. Got the scene finished on time, did my pitch today and the only revision was to add one drawing.

Got confirmation email of my Amazon refund.

One more rush tomorrow and I can have a quiet weekend (unless another unforeseen rush happens).

One more little thing.


It's been announced that there will finally be a follow up to the serie "Mysterious Cities of Gold". Two more seasons, the next one leading the cast to Asia.
Not too many details at this point, as the serie is slated for a 2011-2012 airing.
For years, I was hoping for a follow up! When the serie ended, the characters promised each other to meet again in Barcelona in a year. It took over 20 years to happen!
I wonder if the cast will be the same? I wonder how much of the original look they will keep or if they will update some designs?

I should remind myself not to get too excited. There have been false start on such a production before. Apparently, the time is right. According to an interview, one representative mentionned MCOG was perfect: high competition to try and grab viewers by bringing them back to known properties, the return of '80s cartoons popularity.
Hey, it explains a lot of Hollywood films.

I wonder if they'll re-work the old Dungeons and Dragons cartoon.

The studio mentionned, Blue Spirit (Ha! Avatar reference!), seems to be doing mostly preschool cg stuff, so I don't know. In their production under MOC, there's nothing.

The original show dates way back to 1982. Depending where yu live, it may have been broadcasted a few years later.

This bandwagon is old! Most of the seats free by now.
It has aged a bit, but still overall a good fun quest serie.

The table top game of DnD has gone through four sort of... revisions, aptly named first, second, third and fourth edition. With every rework, the game has gotten a MAAAAJOR overhaul. They're pretty much completely different games. Fourth edition just came out this past summer and a lot of people (myself included) hated the way they reworked the game. To my eyes, it looks like they're trying to cash in on the whole online gaming craze. Even the art looked a LOT like the art for World of Warcraft. So, as me and my gaming buddies happily continue to play 3.5 edition, I just made a comment about how if they reworked the old DnD cartoon they'd make it 4th edition. I know the cartoon was always edition ambiguous but.. it was just a dumb joke so... yeah..

ANYWAY. Hope that clears things up a little!

The thing with this show is they played around with history, plus added in all the other fun stuff like Atlantis, Mu, Von Daniken's ancient astronaut, impossible ancient technology.
It's the mix of the two that added to the adventure, and it worked.
At the end of each episode, there would be a small documentary like vignette, explaining the real world counterpart, be it history or geography (Magellan's Strait, Inca civilisation, Pizarro...)

Haha, the thing is, being Mexican, it drove me insane when I read (on wikipedia) something about meeting the Inca and the Maya and the Olmecs and I was like "WAIT WHAT!? ARE THEY TIME TRAVELERS?!?!?!"

I can't remember if the people they meet is the Maya or the Aztecs. They do find ruins of past people which may have been the Mayas.
The Olmecs are not only a dying race..they are the "ancient astronaut" (i.e. aliens), so ha ha! They are having fun with the whole thing. They even meet the Amazons warrior women.
And hey, if they can have a giant, solar powered flying condor shaped plane, I say anything goes. It's pure fantasy, mixed in with history.

I guess the Maya, since the Aztecs were not in "ruins." I mean, the Aztec empire fell in 1521, and then the valley of Mexico was conquered by Spaniards.

I've got the series on DVD in French at home, watched them all while inking Bad Guys. EEE!! I would LOVE to see more of this!

I remember the Olmecs scaring the crap out of me as a kid. I also hadn't seen the final episode until I watched my DVDs last year!

Nice sketch -- you've got all the likenesses down (although yeah, Esteban's not quite right, but still).

*SQUEAK* This makes me UNBEARABLY happy. I watched these faithfully when they came on Nickelodeon. I was about...eight, nine at the time? gods I loved 'em.

Who could resist Mendoza? That his fan following stayed loyal all these years says something.
I wonder if there are fancomics out there of these guys.
If I had ideas, I would definitely have fun drawing a story or two.
