Balance of good and bad

Good: Manage to sell all the books I had brought today.
Bad: The used bookstore had moved, and I hurt my hand slightly carrying the books a longer way than I thought. Feels better tonight though.

Good: Said used bookstore had a real 1938 propaganda postcard from Germany! My inner history fanatic couldn't resist.
Bad: So I spent part of my used book money on that. D'oh! But I'm happy so it's not all that bad.

Good: Had dinner with my cousin tonight.
Bad: The salmon I ordered was badly cooked and smelled bad. Urk! Don't think I'll be returning there.

Bad: Didn't get as much real work done as I'd hope, I'll have to catch up.
Good: well...here are a few very quickly done Water Tribe pages, with crappiest gray tones yet.

Off to sleep now.

It sounds like the day was a mixed bag, all around.; I hope etomorrow
s far less ambioguous. ;-)

Poor Zhao. It is fun to make his existence difficult.

Mixed bag, definitely. We'll see how today goes.

I like that old admiral - it's good to have competent foes, and plus he's having fun! Also, that last page is really sharp, great stuff there.

Hope the goods outweigh the bads from here on.

Old Choi didn't get to where he was for being a fool. He's a sharp one, despite his old age...and he's enjoying every seconds of the conflict.

As long as good and bad keep in balance, I can live with it. Outweighing is better though.

woo...damn that Yueh. I wanna strangle him. Oh well, this is one heck of a climax heeheehee...

Oct. 17th, 2007 01:28 pm (UTC)
I'd only strangle him after he makes Zhao sweat a little, 'cause that is always fun, mwahaha!

But of course it had to go wrong so that we could have another fight. Great way to wake up and start the morning! Thanks!

There is always logic in bad stuff happening ;)
Couldn't let Zhao off his ship and plan that easily.
Awww, you are very welcome.

if you had truly been evilly inclined, you would have left off at page 145 - thank goodness you didn't!

Poor Zhao - he and "cold" just don't get along (sort of like me and "gravity" Curse you gravity and your irrefutable law of nature ways! *shakefish*)
rufftoon
Oct. 17th, 2007 01:33 pm (UTC)
You don't know how tempted I was to do just that! Cut off at 145, heeheehee.

I think "cold" is Zhao's true, only foe. Forget Yueh. Cold is the one to beat (and definitely easier to beat than gravity...you should choose your enemies carefully)

Should be plenty of actionny stuff next. I gotta start thinking about the layouts for that.

Drama!!
I can tell I have not woken up yet because the old fellow with the moustache I momentarily thought was Getafix!

If I were Zhao I'd be a bit suspicious of the door freezing up.

It's so sad to let go of books. At least you know they'll be in good hands!
rufftoon
Oct. 17th, 2007 04:15 pm (UTC)
Haha, I keep thinking of Getafix when I draw him. So...it's not just you not waking up.

Zhao, suspicious fellow that he is, was the last person to check if the door was working properly. Must have been some condensation from the heat inside the ship that froze the mechanism afterwards. Yeah...that must be it.
I already want to replace the books I've sold. Noooo! Must not add books to shelves!

I contemplated Zhao's speech bubble for a second before translating his symbols to myself as, "Flipping hackblown skull-bitten cold!" I think it's got a sort of poetry to it. :)

Clear, vivid, dynamic images and easy-to-follow fight sequences, as always. Good stuff!
rufftoon
Oct. 17th, 2007 04:18 pm (UTC)
Haha, fun translation, possibly quite more polite than what it really is.
Thank you- I try to keep fights as clear to read as possible. Not easy...

Nuuuu!!!!

uuuu!!!

He can't firebend!! But maybe the fire will unlock the mechanism?? But will he be able to escape with those injuries? Also from falling from that door? arrgh
rufftoon
Oct. 17th, 2007 04:22 pm (UTC)
No firebending means Zhao will have to try and be faster than his opponent, and break limbs again if he can.
He ain't out of trouble yet! (feels evil)

"One more fight! Very good!" ^_^

I love that canny old guy, reminds me of Iroh. It does seem he's content to be blown up if it is his time.

Good: The fire should unstick the door.
Bad: Zhao is flammable.

Oct. 17th, 2007 04:25 pm (UTC)
You bet he's happy- he never wanted to stop the war, never wanted to end his carreer quietly. Now he gets one more chance to...er...have fun.
Not only is Zhao flammable, but I don't think Yueh will let him get NEAR that door.

Eeeee, fight scene!

Let me guess, the firebending unfroze the door?
rufftoon
Oct. 17th, 2007 07:42 pm (UTC)
It probably did.
But I don't think Yueh will let him get close to that door now.

Because I CAN'T get the image of Getafix out of my head. If my re-work ever gets to this point, I will change his design slightly...and even then.

Ending on a FWOOOM rather than a BONK. hmmm...you may be right.

I recently plunged into Avatar fandom and even more recently discovered this comic and read the entire thing in two sittings last week. I'm completely hooked.

And DANGIT WOMAN you've got me fangirling over Zhao. As if I wasn't already fixating on one too many (fictional) homicidal maniacs ;D

Welcome to the fandom. Beware of Avatar brain rot, as it can spawn things like unintentional fanarts, fanfics and overlong comics like this AU.
Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed the story so far.
Zhao has loss some of his homicidal maniac tendencies...though he is ready to blow 3 ships worth of fire nation crew without a blink.
I stand corrected.

Hello! I'm a huge Avatar fan, and I have just discovered your Water Tribe comics! A little late, I know. But they are absolutely wonderful! :) They are such a nice break from the huge mountain of college work that I am trying to dig myself out of. So, thank you very much for the great distraction. :D

...I'm not sure what that expletive was, but I'd bet it's really, really foul. ^^ Oh noes! The door is frozen! More bad news for Zhao... who should really expect things like that to happen by this point. The universe has it in for him... but then again, all that bad karma he's built up is probably just catching up with him. :)

I just wanted to compliment you.
I found out today that you had a lifejournal and now I have checked through all your entries ^.^''
And it were a lifesaver during my very long and boring train trip... (yes, we have internet on the trains..)

I really love the way you draw, and I hope that I'll get to your skill someday.
I had thought up some nice critisims on the comic but now when I finaly reached the last page I'm so tired I need to sleep first *yawn*

I'll probaly drop by again ^.^

Thank you very much for your kind words.
Internet on trains is very very good. Not all trains have it though. Pity.
Do come back any time- crits well received, as this is still a work-practice in progress and still very much open to changes.

A real 1938 propaganda postcard from Germany!? LUCKY. (Was it so-so expensive or my-wallet-is-on-fire-expensive?)(If you don't mind me asking. I've always wondered how much World War er..leftovers cost...)
Again, lovely work! No crappy gray tones here! Last panel, when Zhao gets attacked was very well drawn. Loved the fire.

Oct. 19th, 2007 02:37 pm (UTC)
It was expensive, but I just had fresh money from book selling so I splurged!!
And it depends what these left overs are. Friend of mine used to collect post cards from the first World War, to get stories not told in the history books. These ranged in the so-so expensive.

Wow! la dernière case, avec Zhao qui se retourne, est vraiment superbe. J'aime aussi beaucoup le général Choi, avec sa belle moustache et ses yeux ridés qu'on imagine perçants...
Est-ce que Zhao va se faire trucider? (dumdumdummmm)
Au moins un petit peu?
Tout petit peu?

Zhao, se faire trucider?
Hmmm...
Peut-être un tout petit peu, peût-être beaucoup.
