Bummed out

I'm not the first (nor the last) to post about it, but today the comic book community learned about the loss of a gentleman: Mike Wieringo was an extremely talented artist. He passed away very sudenly this past Saturday. He always had a kind word for his fellow artists, helped the beginners to the best of his abilities. He had so many projects, so many dreams...and it's all over.
*sigh*
I didn't know him much. I greatly enjoyed his art, especially his Tellos project. He left me a few very nice comments now and then, and I treasured those.
He wasn't old either. 44. I am almost there when I think about it. Makes one think about what one can accomplish in a lifetime.
He will be missed.
-------------------------------------------------

Apart from that, I've just finished part one of the contract I was working on. Taking the evening off to do a tiny bit of much needed cleaning here. I'll start again tomorrow.

Nope, no drawings tonight I'm afraid. Bummed out I tell ya.

Someone kick my butt into drawing gear: first five people who respond to this post I'll do a small sketchy for them. I'm gonna keep it restricted though- Zhao or Water Tribe related (this feels like this is HIS journal, not mine...)

I was so sad to hear about Mike. I didn't know him at all but it is always a loss to the world when a creative person is struck down prematurely.

An amazing Salsa dancer! I found him inspirational. ^_^

Oh wow. I hadn't heard. That's awful.

Y'ever wonder if Zhao tried to ride the penguins?

Are there penguins in the north pole of the Avatar world? For the sake of argument, let's say there are...

Ah, right, the whole north-pole, south-pole, penguins and polar bears don't co-habitate thing. I can be dumb sometimes. I lose.

Well, but they did have Polar Leopards in the South, with the Penguins...
Actually, the only fauna we saw of the north were the Caribou things and the Spirit Koi.

i just heard of it from my friends right after a movie ..it was really unexpected. all I can think of now is how nice he was in the drawingboard forum, the tiger avatar he had, and that incredibly awesome drawing of Link he did.

I am thoroughly sad and depressed that a talented, nice, and humble guy like him has left the world so young :(

I was really bummed out about this today too.
It's really a shame. He was such a positive person that really gave a lot to the community. I wish his family and friends well.

I had never heard of Mike before, but I can say that no one should ever have to live such a short life. I had to look up some of his work, which is beautiful by the way, and it really does make you think about what you can do in the time we have here. I absolutely agree.

As for drawing ideas...I've wondered if Zhao ever had to learn how to captain a Water Tribe ship :). He must have some pretty colorful language handy ;).

That's really too bad. D: I hadn't heard about it before reading your journal--44 is really young! Very sad. D: Big hug.

Optional art-butt-kicking idea: Zhao poisoning pigeons in the park. n_n

And he was living such a healthy lifestyle! Going to the gym, vegetarian, the whole thing...
*triple sigh*

Heh, what else would Zhao be doing in a park...

Feel better! May his memory go on in the hearts of those he touched with his gift!

I'm so terribly sorry to hear that Mike died! I've never had the pleasure of meeting the man but I've seen some of his work and he is an amazing artist :( I really hope you, and everyone effected by his death feels better.

Even though only one person can accomplish so much in a life time, I feel that those accomplishments will long out live the actual person. Much of the work he has done will continue through the years and be a part of our culture. I hope he rests in peace knowing that he has done well.

Um... I'm not sure if everyone has posted for Zhao ideas yet so I'm just going to throw one out there. I'd love to see Zhao trying to cross thin ice of a lake or something, and Nauja is standing at the edge of the thinned ice, looking very peeved at him. You might say that he's 'walking on thin ice' with her! XD *laughs at her own stupid joke* If not that then it'd be cool to see him doing some blacksmithing of weapons :)

:( It's even sadder because nobody's expecting it like

And ...you know I liked Wieringo's drawings and he drew Aang too on his blog.

Anyway I actually came her to congratulate you on the Nick mag comic, like you said, very Asterix this time.

Many thoughts for Mike- will propose a toast this weekend at TCAF or something.

Heh, if you thought that was Asterix like a bit, wait 'til you see the next thing I'm working on.

At times like this we all realise just how quickly one comes and goes..didn't know him, but from all the messages I've read all over the internet, he seemed like a really nice guy. I am sorry I never got to know him.
